Projects that will change the face of Ljubljana. Today we will discuss the reconstruction of the territory of the Baragova Seminary, which belongs to the city. It will be complex due to its high cultural and historical value and its central location in the southern Bezhigrad region.
Seminary
Preparations for the architectural competition began in 2019. Now we are choosing the best solution to complete the plan and composition that Jože Plečnik conceived for the seminary complex. According to the plan, a large and smaller theater halls will be completed for the needs of the Youth Theater with technical premises and an underground garage. The city will receive a hall for cultural events with an auxiliary and educational hall, a cafe and an exhibition space in the foyer. The renovated building will be managed by the Pioneer House and the Slovenian Youth Theatre.
Territory development
After the reconstruction of the Baragova Seminary, a complete improvement of the territory will follow. The area around the seminary will become an integral part of the life of the central part of Ljubljana.
The central object of the seminary is a multifunctional building in the form of a covered Roman forum. It will become a place of events and socializing, supported by a new youth cultural center, as well as a business and wellness center Triglav. The facility will be used for fair events, exhibitions, concerts and congresses.
Building for the insurance company Triglav d.d.
As if in continuation of the Slovenian cesta, the new office building of the insurance company Triglav d.d. will become a link between the Blue Lagoon complex, the square in front of the new Youth Theatre, the city center, the renovated railway station and the State Exhibition Center. This building will not close the space, but, according to the architects, will open it, connecting it together. It will consist of two oblong-shaped buildings connected to each other on the ground floor.
Pedestrian zones
It is planned to establish a direct pedestrian connection between Mikloshicheva Street, the railway station, the bus station, the area of the Blue Lagoon complex, the new bicycle terminal and pedestrian zones at different levels in the new spaces of the railway station, the exhibition center and the Youth Theatre.
The heart of the business and cultural life of the city
The Blue Lagoon area will acquire the character of the modern center of Ljubljana, which will beat the heart of the business and cultural life of the city also thanks to the new business hotel and the new residential complex “Twin Towers”. Two new residential towers will appear at the intersection of Dunayskaya and Linhartova streets.
On the other side of the reconstructed area, between the Bavarian Palace, the State Exhibition Center and along Vilharjeva Street, two low-rise buildings are planned for the potential expansion of the exhibition center. The high-rise building at the intersection of Vilkharieva and Dunayskaya streets will become another modern business center.
Completion of the project is planned for 2025.
