Where in Europe is life best? European Union citizens were generally satisfied with their lives in 2023.
At the end of last year, the European Union Statistics Office published its annual report on the satisfaction of European Union residents with their standard and quality of life in 2023.
In 2023, European Union residents rated their life satisfaction at an average of 7.3 on a scale from 0 (very dissatisfied) to 10 (extremely satisfied).
The level of life satisfaction in 2023 was highest in Finland (7.8), Belgium, Austria, Romania and Slovenia (each with 7.7).
At the same time, the lowest level of life satisfaction was in Bulgaria (5.9 points), Latvia and Greece (residents of both countries rated the level of satisfaction at 6.9 points).
However, in all EU countries except Bulgaria, the average levels of life satisfaction were above 6, which means that residents who participated in the survey declared themselves more satisfied than dissatisfied.
