Investments in industrial equipment, real estate and land reached a record level last year 2023

Increased investment in construction and real estate

The volume of fixed capital investments last year amounted to a good 8.6 billion euros, which is the highest figure ever. In annual terms, the value of investments increased by 9.5 percent, the Statistics Office of Slovenia reported.

Over the past decade from 2013 to 2023, expenditure on fixed capital investments in Slovenia has almost doubled. More precisely, last year they increased by 87.7 percent and reached 8.648 billion euros, which is the highest value since 1996, the year the Statistics Office began tracking such data. Over the past decade, annual growth was observed in most years, with the exception of 2016 and 2020. The annual growth of investments in 2021 was especially pronounced (by 21.4 percent).

Where investments grew the most

According to the Statistics Office, last year the value of investments in construction projects and commercial premises grew the most, by almost half a billion euros. As in previous years, these investments accounted for about half (50.4 percent) of all fixed capital investments in 2023. Compared to the previous year, they increased by 490 million euros, representing an increase of 12.7 percent.

Investments in intangible assets increased by 21.5 percent last year after a decrease of 2.6 percent the year before. Overall, such investments accounted for 4.7 percent of the total, the Statistical Office also reported.
