Prague wants to ban tourists from renting private housing

Prague wants to ban tourists from renting private housing.

Officials believe that renting private housing harms the tourism industry.
Prague may be included in a long list of cities that restrict rental housing through Airbnb for tourists. It is reported by Turprom.

The mayor of the Czech capital said that it is necessary to prohibit renting city apartments without official permission of the city administration. According to him, the increased popularity of such a rental is harmful to the tourism industry of the city.

Residents of Prague complain that the process of widespread rental of housing is not regulated in any way, which is why the city has become like one big hotel. This leads to an increase in the cost of rental housing for local, as well as to a decrease in the solvency of tourists. The opportunity to rent cheap private housing attracts low-income tourists to the Czech capital, which is not profitable either for the business of local residents or for the city budget.

Officials plan to soon ban the lease of entire apartments for a short time. Private housing can be rented only in cases where the owners temporarily left their house or rent only part of the house or apartment, while living in the same territory.

Prague wants to ban tourists from renting private housing, but other major cities across Europe are already limiting their rent through Airbnb. Among them are Amsterdam, Brussels, Munich, Paris, Vienna, Valencia and Berlin.
